Carolyn Diane Wright passed away peacefully at Riverside Doctors Hospital in Williamsburg, Virginia on July 6, 2017, after a courageous four-year battle with cancer. Carolyn is survived by her husband of 47 years, John Wright III. She also leaves behind son John Bryan Wright IV, daughter Ashley Kathleen Wright Terry, son-in-law Morgan Terry, and an extensive network of loved relatives, neighbors and very special friends. Carolyn was preceded in death by her father William Talmadge Pugh, mother Mary Wylene (Taylor) Pugh, and brother Thomas Pugh.

Carolyn was born February 15, 1951 in Harve de Grace, Maryland and was raised in Bel Air, Maryland. Her work career was with Federal Civil Service, mostly at the Ft. Eustis Transportation Museum until retirement in 2008. Carolyn's legacy can best be described as a quiet, private, and humble lady who constantly concerned herself with the welfare and needs of others. She considered her greatest contribution to the world to be her children who loved their mother dearly.

In this difficult time, her family appreciates your thoughts and desire to help. Per Carolyn's request please forgo sending flowers and instead donate to some of the research studies in which she participated.

We credit the quality and quantity of Carolyn's life to those that cared for her at Duke Cancer Center and the Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center. Thanks to Dr. Jeffrey M. Clarke (Oncology) and Dr. Peter E. Fecci (Neurosurgery), we were given additional precious time with her. We are confident that the research and care these doctors provided will aggressively treat this terrible disease and prolong the lives of current and future cancer patients.

In addition the Hospice House has provided invaluable support throughout this process. We would not have made it through this trying time without the services provided through them.

Please make donations in memory of Carolyn D. Wright to the Duke Cancer Institute - Thoracic and Lung Cancers Fund:, the Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center:, or the Hospice House and Support Care of Williamsburg:

Carolyn requested to be cremated with a celebration of her life at 11:00 am on August 5th at Nelsen Funeral Home. You may find more information or offer condolences at or by contacting the funeral home directly at 757-565-1141; 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd., Williamsburg, VA 23188.
