Mary Faust Galfo, 91, passed away on November 3, 2017 at Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center in Williamsburg, Virginia.

Mary was born on February 13, 1926, in Buffalo, New York, to Florence and Howard Faust. She graduated from University of Buffalo with a Bachelor of Science degree, and after completing one year of medical school at UB, she became a medical technologist. She later earned her Master of Science degree at the College of William and Mary.

Mary married Armand Galfo on August 19, 1950. From Buffalo, they moved first to Miami, Florida, and then to Williamsburg, Virginia, where she taught general science, physics, and chemistry, first at Walsingham Academy, and then at Queens Lake Middle School.

In 1985, the Galfos established the Armand J. and Mary Faust Galfo Education Research Fellowship Endowment and the Mary Faust Galfo Science Teaching Scholarship. She was a charter member of the Sir Robert Boyle Legacy Society.

Mary was predeceased by her parents. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Dr. Armand J. Galfo, her sons, Dr. Christopher (Tina) Galfo, of Auberry, California, and Gregory (Virginia) Galfo, of Williamsburg, Virginia, with whom she resided; granddaughters Jessica (Evan) Grove, and Sarah (Kurtis) Strand; in addition, she is survived by three great-grandchildren, Kaitlin Ogden, Aiden Grove, and Emelia Strand. She is also survived by her beloved sister and brother-in-law, Elaine and James McGrath of Enterprise, Florida, sister-in-law, Joan Galfo of Orlando, Florida, and a host of nieces and nephew. She was especially close to her nieces, Barbara Galfo Lewis and Susan McGrath Staley, however, she loved each of her nieces and nephew in equal measure.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 - 4:00 pm and 6:00 - 8:00 pm on Thursday, November 9, 2017 at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Road, Williamsburg. Interment will be private at Cedar Grove Cemetery.
