Preston Lee Wilkins, Sr., loving father, brother, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend departed life on Saturday, December 2, 2017 in Suffolk, Virginia.

Preston was born September 12, 1942 in Washington DC as the third child to the late Willie Wilkins Sr. and Marthelia Taylor Wilkins.

Preston was a native of Washington DC later moving to Montgomery County Maryland. After leaving Montgomery County, Preston settled in Suffolk Virginia where he resided for over 30 years making many friends and customers that loved his sense of humor and mechanical skills.

Preston was educated in the District of Columbia. After being introduced to auto mechanics, he pursued his Certified Masters Technicians Certifcation in auto repair. Preston remained employed with multiple organizations such as Wildwood Exxon, Lustine Chevrolet, Covington Chevrolet, Ourisman Chevrolet, Montgomery County Government for over 40 years. Preston also owned and managed his own auto shop in Big Woods where he not only repaired cars but enjoyed talking and laughing with anyone that stopped by to say Hey.

Preston loved the Washington Redskins, motorcycles, fishing, refurbishing classic vehicles, soul music, roller skating, raising farm animals, gardening and bowling. Preston also believed in sharing his knowledge of auto repair with his children and spending time with his grandchildren as well. He loved peaceful time smoking his corncob pipe and watching the his Washington Redskins. Preston will be remembered mostly for his sense of humor, his quick-wit along with his extensive knowledge of automobile repair.

Preston's legacy of love and laughter lives on in the hearts of his five children George (Debbie) Short, Eric Wilkins Sr, Preston Wilkins Jr., Keith Wilkins Sr and La Kecia Wilkins; seventeen grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild; one brother Willie (Gwen) Wilkins, and two sisters Mary Gillian and Cordelia Jones; and one brother-in-law Arthur Carrington and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Preston was preceded in by his parents Willie and Marthelia Wilkins, brother Daniel Wilkins, sister Janette Carrington, grandsons Moshawn Short, Sr and Eric Wilkins, Jr.

We are grateful to God for blessing everyone with a life that was loved and cherished by many. Preston left the family a legacy of precious memories. You will be loved forever.
