William James Halsey, 84, passed away February 14, 2017 at Sentara Hospice House with family at his side after a long battle with multiple myeloma. He was born on December 12, 1932 in Hertford, NC to the late James V. and Inez Halsey. Also preceding him in death was his loving wife of 52 years Doris Hubbard Halsey and sister Laura A. Halsey.
Bill served our country in the U.S. Army and was also a member of the Naval Air Reserve. He retired from Piedmont Aviation after a 34-year career. He was a fan of the Washington Redskins and Nascar driver Richard Petty. Bill's family will miss his love, strength, courage, and entertaining stories.
Left to cherish his memory are his children Susan Kirton (Lenny), Dana Haycox (Chris), LuAnn Halsey, and Scott Halsey; grandchildren Brandee McBride (Mike), Taylor Haycox (Tricia), Holly McClintock (Travis), Christopher Kirton, Jordan Haycox, Lyndsey Kirton, and Whitney Haycox; six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by sister Jeannette Gimbert; brothers Louis Halsey (Ruth) and Lynn Alan Halsey (Ruth); and many nieces, nephews, and friends including special friend Mary Vanderploeg.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home with entombment to follow at Rosewood Memorial Park.
